Fall 2007 Enrollment Highlights

Total enrollment reached a record 28,121.

  • 22 percent were Hispanic/Latino.
  • 5 percent were African American.
  • 2.2 percent were Asian/Pacific Islander.
  • 70 percent were white.
  • 223 of the 254 counties in Texas, 46 states and 60 nations were represented in this fall's student body.

Colleges with the largest increase in undergraduate students included the McCoy College of Business Administration (5.7 percent), Education (5 percent) and Science (5.8 percent).

Colleges with the largest increase in graduate enrollment included Applied Arts (26 percent), the McCoy College of Business Administration (11 percent) and Fine Arts and Communication (29 percent).

3,117 freshmen enrolled--an institutional record.

  • 25 percent were Hispanic.
  • 5 percent were African American.
  • 1.6 percent were Asian/Paicfic Islander, Native American or Other.
  • 68 percent were white.
  • 55.2 percent graduated in the top quarter of their high school class.
  • 94.3 percent graduated in the top half of their class.

3,015 transfers enrolled--an institutional record.  Leading sources of transfer students were Austin Community College, Blinn College, San Antonio College and the North Harris Montgomery County College District.

The freshman retention rate was 75 percent

The six-year graduation rate increased to 55 percent--an institutional record.
